No shell

I recently installed Debain (woody) and was trying to install the latest version of z-shell and someow I think I have made it so my root has no shell. When I try to login to root using su command after entering password, it comes back No Shell and I can never enter.

Look (as normal user) into /etc/passwd. Search for entry for 'root'. At the end of that line there's shell used by root. See if it looks correctly. If it does (points to /bin/bash etc) there's something diffeent. If it doesn't, use a boot disk (or rescue one) and modify the fstab file for teh correct root shell.

Mara-
Thank you so much for your help. I had to use the boot disk and change the file, it just took me awhile to figure out how to remount my drive read and writable. Thanks again for your help
