No setup signature found ...

I'm trying to install Gentoo and I have come across an error that I have been unable to fix. I have gone through the stage1 install and am trying to reboot with no success. When I reboot, I see a Grub Loading Stage 1.5, then Grub Loading, please wait, after which I am prompted for which kernel that I want to load. I select the only kernel there and I get the following output:

Code:
Booting 'Gentoo 2.4.22'

root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is reiserfs, parition type 0x83
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda3
     [Linux-bzImage, setup 0x800, size 0x400]

No setup signature found ...
And the system stops there, awaiting the Ctl-Alt-Del.

My grub.conf is as follows:
Code:
default 0
timeout 10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz

title Gentoo 2.4.22
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda3
I know there have been a few questions on this exact topic with no response but redirection to the kernel compile/install section. I have read through the documentation and searched forums, (not limited to this one). I am missing something here, any help would be great. Thanks.

It's fixed.

The problem was with my kernel configuration, I went back and used fewer compiled options and it worked.

Hey Josh, maybe you can help me.

I am having the same problem

Code:
root (hd0,4)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /kernel-vanilla-sources root=/dev/hda7 vga=788
     [Linux-zImage, setup-0x800, size=0xc00]

No setup signature found . . .
If anyone can help as well, I would very much appreciate it

johnnyICON,

The problem that I was having at the time was that my kernel was not actually compiling fully... I was newer to the process than I am now, and I would just issue the following command and expect it all to work: 'make dep clean bzImage modules modules_install'.

The problem came during the 'make bzImage' stage where the kernel had an error while compiling, and I didn't even look for an error because of the way that I was compiling the kernel. From that point on, I have begun compiling the 2.4 kernel in two stages, the first stage is just the 'make dep clean bzImage', where I check for errors and make sure that the bzImage file is at least a megabyte in size. I then finish the compilation with the 'make modules modules_install'.

I hope this works for you. I found that I had to go back to my kernel and clean it out, compiling fewer options in the kernel and making more modules.

Josh
