Hi,

I just upgraded from RedHat 6.0 to 7.0.

When I now boot up I get the usual messages then a login prompt. I enter a user id and instead of getting the password prompt it goes straight back to the login prompt.

I can boot up in single user mode but do not see any wierd messages in /var/log/messages

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Simon

Are you trying to login as a regular user you originally had created or root? What about your /etc/passwd file, what does it look like, or does anything seem weird there?

The /etc/passwd looks ok.

When I try typing passwd (in single user mode) I get a Segmentation Fault. Clearly something is wrong!!! Is there anywhere I can look to find out more about the seg fault?

Should I delete/rebuild the passwd file???If so does anybody know how?

Any help is greatfully appreciated....

Simon

the /etc/passwd should not be the problem.
maybe your /bin/login was damaged during the upgrade.
