no hard found, when installing RHEL5 on SATA 3 hard
 

Hi all,

I tried installing Red Hat linux on my Sata hard disk . As soon as the hardware detection phase starts it generates the error "No hardware detected". Please tell how to solve problem? (I have also tested RHLE 5, CentOS 5.4, but none of them detect the hard disk and I can not install anyone).
I have installed Windows 7 on one of my disks and I have not any problem with it.
I also changed storage configuration in Bios as AHCI, IDE, But it was not helpful.

My Hardware config is as below:
Mainboard: ASUS P6X58D premium,
CPU: core i7 950,
HDD: two 1 TB WD SATA3
Ram: 6 GB (3*2 GB cruciall[/U][/U][/B]

Some questions.
If you boot from a live CD can you see all the drives?
If you use gparted does it show all the drives?
Gparted will sometimes crash if there is a problem with the partition table. Does this happen?
Is the SATA adapter a Raid adapter?

The last question is probably yes. There are issues with some raid controllers that cause the disks to be hidden because the kernel does not have a driver available that can see beyond the controller. RHLE and CentOS do not have all the available drivers in the Kernel. Try using Fedora 14 live disk and see if the hardware is detected.

I see you have 2 sata3 (6Gb) disks.

- Are these disks connected to the correct controller (the Marvell® PCIe SATA 6Gb/s controller)?
- Is the Marvell® PCIe SATA 6Gb/s controller activated in your BIOS?

P6X58D has 2 SATA 6 controller and my disks were connected to those ports; When I connected them to SATA 3, linux recognized the hard derives.
