No Gmail notifier sound

I am posting here as a last desperate attempt to find someone who will help me to figure out why I am not getting sound (.wav) with Gmail. I am running PCLOS2010.1 and using the Firefox browser. Sound was OK prior to upgrading to PCLOS2010.1. Users of the PCLOS forum have not come forward. Any help gratefully appreciated.

Wink

Does other web-pages give you sound??? (like youtube etc.)
Is it possible to play some sound from your HD (like music, ... with XMMS / Amarok / ...)

Maybe this thread on PCLOS-forum is helpful
firefox no sound

Or try the following:
Probably the problem is that the order of your cards is wrong in the preferences of PCLinuxOS...
Assure yourself that the audio-manager is set to ALSA,
and open a Konsole, do
Code:
su
(type your root-password) and run then
Code:
alsaconf
, selecting as primary card your audio-card

Thanks for coming in rubentje. I can confirm that I get audio with everything, including YouTube. The only time that audio doesn't work is with the Gmail notifier. I have been through the checks that you suggest +. The soundless Gmail notifier problem is affecting all my 3 machines (Compaq, Packard Bell and Samsung) since I upgraded to 2010.1. Do you get sound with Gmail and running Firefox with 2010.1?

This is my thread on the PCLOS forum if you care to read it:

I much appreciate your response.

Nobody really tried to be helpful to you on the PCLOS-forum....?

Thanks for trying out all of it....
Another question:
What happens if you use another browser (try e.g. konqueror / opera / ...)? - or is it an add-on that is only available for firefox (gmail-notifier I think...)???

In the meantime, I'm going to try to find a solution on the web (never seen this before) - if I look around rapidly, there are other persons in other distro's with a similar problem.....
