no CDROM...install options?

Here is my dilema, I have an old Gateway 233 laptop with 32meg that has a bad CDROM. The machine has no OS on it right now and I woul like to install some form of linux on it. It does have a floppy and a PCMIA network card. Do I have any options to either install from floppy or boot to a floppy and install from the net? I know SUSE has some kind of FTP install that I was looking at but I couldnt figure it out and I think this machine is a little weak for that distro anyway.

Debian also has a network install. I think Slack does as well. These can be made to do well with older hardware, and are both compiled for 386, so you won't have any trouble there.
These distros also allow you to start with the bare minimum and add stuff to your needs. I would suggest deb if you're comfortable with linux as the software is very easy to install thanks to apt.

Dream theatre is awesome. I'm old so i consider them
a new band.
i think you might could install gentoo with a few floppies
to get it started. freebsd i think and the other bsd's
all have floppy based ftp installs. netbsd is sweet for
a low end machine. when i would boot netbsd, 2 years
ago though, i would run top, and only 7 megs of ram
would be used after i logged in.
