I just installed Midnight Commander and have run into something unusual. The ~/.mc/ini file has not been created. I thought "no problem," because I can create one by copying the appropriate configuration file from the root directory and put it in ~/.config/mc. I looked at every mc file in /etc/mc, /usr/share/mc and ~/.local/share/mc, but did not see it. I know what the file looks like from previous installations. Either I have become partially blind or mc is misbehaving badly. I could try removing it and re-installing, but I want to try solving this first. (A learning experience.) Is there an mc file or directory in an obscure place? This is very unusual, since mc has had zero problems on previous installations. (Debian Wheezy)
That is the problem. ~/.config/mc is empty, but I cannot find the correct configuration file to copy and place there. I is unlikely that the file does not exist somewhere, because without it mc should not run. I just cannot find the damn thing.
Nice idea, but it creates another empty directory.
The annoying thing is I really only need the file to set the skin. (I am not fond of the default colours.) I have yet to figure out how to configure mc with the command line. It is much more difficult than with Ranger.
I have the skins, along with everything else. What I cannot find is the configuration file that I can copy to my ~/home directory. I have searched several times, but have not found it. Really confusing. If the configuration file is not created after the next re-boot, I might be force to experiment by removing mc and re-installing it to see what happens. Thanks anyway.
Yes, that did it. I looked at the options, but did not make any changes, so had nothing to save. Now I know just opening the options menu and choosing save will create the conf. file. Thanks a bunch. That is worth two or three karma points, but I can only give you one.
