NIC limit in kernels
Hi to all,
I would like to know if there's a limit in the number of NICs that can be installed in a Linux machine. I know that older kernels had a limit for the number of NICs that they can support. But what abt 2.6 kernels? Thx in advance... Regards, Visham |
I'd assume you'd be limited by the hardware in terms of the number of buses/interrupts in the system long before you reached the OS maximum. For virtual interfaces (aliases) you can at least have several thousand (you'd need a whole lot o' PCI slots to reach that).

Nic Limit
I'm not sure if their is a limit, but I have one firewall that currently has 14 ethernet ports. 2 builtin ports and 3 quad port 10/100 nics.
