Newbie with some Windows > Linux transition questions.
Evening all, as i'm trying to make a complete transition to linux, i'm looking for some similar programs to the ones i use a lot in windows.
First off, if anyone could recommend a decent p2p file sharing proggie, that would be great. I've tried a gnutella based one and had no luck finding the files i'm after. Also, i use my Kodak CX4210 digital camera regularly and i can't get it going in linux. I've downloaded the libgphoto2 files and the gtKam frontend and not had any luck.
And last, but by no means least....
I have a Radeon 7500 graphics card and although X runs fine in the supported resolutions, games and such run verrry chuggy (Tux racer especially), do i need any OpenGL/Direct3D libraries??
This is my pet peeve of the moment and once again any help would be much appreciated.

Gidday...
1.)
I found GTK-Gnutella quite good... but there's also a host of others listed on Freshmeat.
2.)
Hmm .. according to the specs that cam should go.
What kind of errors are you getting?
3.)
Is your X running Vesa or ati accelerated driver?
Cheers,
Tink

Well camera wise, it detects it as a USB PTP Class Camera, when i click apply it tells me...Could not initialize camera.
And graphics wise, i don't honestly know what driver its using, is there a way to check?

Hmmm . Does it generate any logfiles/console output?

Just
Code:
grep -i ati /var/log/XFree86.0.log | grep -i module
if you get no output at all, try fbdev instead of ati :)

Tink

After installing the ATI driver from its RPM, there should have been some sort of warning that the 'accelerated' performance is not going to be good, 'because a native <something> was not found and it must be compiled from source'.
..At least, thats what happened to me when I was installing the driver for this ATI 9700 Pro. After I built the custom module, things ran as expected.

Tink, the console didn't generate any errors when trying my camera again, and i wouldn't know where to look for the logfiles.
After trying the grep -i ati /var/log/XFree86.0.log | grep -i module, the console gives me this :-
(II) LoadModule: "ati"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/ati_drv.o
(II) Module ati: vendor="The XFree86 Project"
But there is no difference in performance. Hatz, i didn't install the ATI driver myself as i can't find one for the radeon 7500, it was auto-detected during install.
Thanks for being so patient ppl.
