I am using nautilus on redhat el3, trying to open a window on a remote host. this is b/c scp won't copy the files from the remote host: it says "not a regular file"

when I type into a nautilus window it automatically opens ----:// where ---- = http.

Would you be able to do what you need to do by opening a terminal window and then using ssh or telnet to remotely log into the box? (I am assuming that you have an account on the remote workstation.)

Once you are logged into the remote machine, you could check what kind of a file it is you are transferring (get an explanation to the "not a regular file" message) and then possible scp it over to the machine you are sitting at: `scp the_file_you_want`
