Newbie having trouble installing program

i am trying to install gIFT on my computer.

I am totally new to Linux, don't know how to ues it and got it on priciple against microsoft. I have libranet debian linux

What I have tried

I tried untarring the downloaded file
then i opened up a terminal and cd to the directory
Then I typed './configure
the screen next line is just

>

so i tried typing make then make install and nothing happened. All the guides explain installation to be this simple but nothing is happening

use command and run the script for the install and it should work
