ive just installed red hat linux 9 to work on unix networking in C .. so ive opened a new terminal and am able to create a new file and type my program but am not able to compile it... when i give "gcc filename.c" it just gives "command not found" please help me out....
Redhat 9 is an obsolete distro--you might want to consider getting Fedora 6 or one of the other modern ones.
You perhaps do not have gcc installed. I don't know RH9, but the package manager will generally have one package that installs evertying you need for devlopment.
Does the command line not also refuse certain commands when you are not root? But never says lack of privilege is the reason, just says "command not found"
