new to ubuntu

hi from diatreme
I just got my self a second hand laptop so I could teach my self ubuntu and have successfully installed the software BUT the screen size is too small and even if I try to change the resolution it defaults to one smaller than my 15" screen.
Secondly I am using tiscali on my PC which was easy to install with the CD-ROM that was supplied, is it possible to be able to set up so that I can just switch from PC to laptop when I need to.
Sorry if this sounds a little basic but I need to get on line with ubuntu if I want to make progress.
Thanks

Is that a metaphor or are you having internet trouble as well?

I too am new to Ubuntu. I absolutely love the poop right out of it. So much so that I have started to install Kubuntu on my second computer (Sadly, the first must stay in windows, for now. Games only.) There seems to be some discrepancies in the search for Ubuntu/Kubuntu drivers out there. Can I use either one or do I need to d/l one or the other. Also should I go ahead and d/l the Fedora Red Hat 6? Just go all the way one might say?
I have always been one to jump right in (swim or die, ya know?). Any input (interest) would be welcome.
PEACE
