New Linux console out

The GPX2 is finally available - http://www.gbax.com

It's Linux based & has 3x the CPU power (in its two CPUs) and 4x the RAM of the GP32, the original OS handheld (which I've also got & is great fun, I might add - all the old games I grew up with. Remember Dizzy Egg and Jet Set Willy. . ?)

Now I just have to find out if I can install Gentoo on it ;)

That would be neat, but I'd rather a PSP just for the fact that I know it's going to be widely supported and developed for. While that runs linux and that automatically means it's continually developed for, it's still out of the loop. Bet it wouildn't run games like Doom 3 or even anything like Enemy Territory, the PSP will.

Runs Doom I and II, doubt 3 will make it tho. . . the GP32 was mainly about emulators for old games rather than running new ones.

Since the only significant difference between the original Doom and Doom 3 is the graphics, that's fine by me :)

I had my gp2x for one day before I bricked it with a firmware upgrade. Since U-Boot was damaged, it could no longer be unbricked using the widely available instructions. Since I don't have a jtag cable, I was screwed. I sold it to someone who can fix it & I'll probably be buying a new one.

I got a PSP for Christmas and I love it, mostly for watching movies & the web browser. The only game I have for it is Pinball Hall Of Fame. I'd love to see emulators and homebrew software on it, but the 2.6 firmware no longer allows it.

mike3k, do you have any info on converting avi/wmv/mpeg to the PSP's requirements for MPEG-4? Or do you download/play MPEG-4 files/UMD's? I just ask because I'd love to watch my unlicensed anime and AMV's on my PSP!

I'd hate to sound like a gloater, but (WMV aside) I can play just about all movie formats on my GP2X out of the box.

In fact, I've already ripped a whole bunch of my DVDs to Divx5 AVIs so I can watch them wherever I go. You can get 4-5 hours worth of movies onto a 1GB SD card. . .
