New CentOS 5 install, setup on first boot, no mouse or keyboard

Since there is no CentOS distro forum, I will ask this here.

I am setting up a new server with ASUS M2A-VM mobo, AM2 4200+, 2GB, 250GB, etc. The mouse and keyboard plug into the ps2 connectors. I have installed Sayabon on this system and everything worked OOTB.

Everything worked during the initial installation. I was able to select my timezone with the mouse. I entered the root passord, etc. Then after the first boot it had some additional setup. At that point the mouse is stuck in the center of the screen. The keyboard seems to repeat each key a random number of times. When I try to define my user id (userid for example) it echos something like:

I can't get past any of this to fix it. When I try to go to a tty console I get a bunch of messages that say Time went backwards. It won't let me log on as root.

Is there anything I need to do on bootup or a reinstall that might help solve this problem?

Bump. I still need help on this if anyone has any experience with this type of problem.

Any additional info I can provide that would be helpful?
