What you need is Samba. The official Red Hat documentation (see the "Red Hat Linux
Customization Guide") contains an introduction to Samba that should get you started.
There's also a HOWTO about Samba at the Linux Documentation Project site.

Samba is not tied to any one distribution and it's a standard,
well known, important technology. Therefore, Samba is going
to be an option on any distribution. There might be minor
differences from one distribution to another in terms of the locations
of configuration files, etc. The major distirbutions might
bundle administration tools to configure Samba
through a gui. However, none of that will make much
difference. Editing the configuration files directly is not
difficult.
