Network under vmware

I have installed the vmware rpm that was included in the SuSE 8.0 Pro installation set and (succesfully) got Win98 up and running with the bridged network option. During the install I accepted all of the networking default options. Now that I have everything running I can't access the network from windows. I can ping the loopback (127.0.0.1) but I can't ping the static IP that I gave windows. Anybody have any thoughts?
