need to replace RH 9 ?

Hi !

I use RH 9 as a mail relay I understand that there will be no patches for this OS in
a couple of mounths
so what to do?
I like very much working on redhat so do i need to download another dist ?

and if so which one I closer to RH ?

thanks

I would get Fedora Core 1. It is made by RH and you can d/l it from www.redhat.com. I use it now and and almost all of my hardware is working great.

It is basically the same thing...but there is a big problem that that I think you will not appreciate, at least by how you worded your question.
Fedora has a big problem with downloading updates using up2date. First, there is a problem with the version they've included in version 1, but even once that is fixed their updates server appears to have very limited bandwidth or something, because it takes for ever to download all the updates, with a high error rate in the update files...but there may be a fix already out for the problematic update files.

I say look around, browse other distros, and if you still think Redhat is your thing, then continue using Redhat until Fedora releases its next version.

Just thought you should be aware of the problems

About the update servers...yes, they are TERRIBLE. However, use a mirror and you will get better results. I just switched to the gatech mirror and up2date is working like it did with RHN...really fast and nice.

I would try SuSE if you want a pretty GUI to work with and an easy updater.

However, Slackware is not far off at all. In fact, I prefer it over every other distro out there. Slackware has a command line updater called SWARET. You can update stuff by typing swaret --update and then swaret --upgrade.

I think there is a GUI front end too if you need.

I would say try Slackware. :D

Peace,
Whitehat

Yeah I agree with Whitehat I would try slack with SWARET it makes updating easy and I think you will see a improvement in proformance and stability
