Need Stripped Down Kernel

SuSE 9.1 Pro (kernel 2.6.4-52)

I am trying to build my lab with diskless booting. I need a stripped down kernel with ram disk abilities, and Network support for NFS, DHCP, and Bootp. I have tried various things and have been unsuccessfull. Where can I find a ".config" file that is set up with the minimum things I need configured?

Have you tried looking at one of the floppy based distros? Or one of the minimal distro's like DamnSmall Linux that fit within or are less than 100MB in size?

Are you speaking about using the other distro's in replacement of a diskless system. If so that would defeat the purpose of my lab. I would like my system to be able to crash, and either load a kernel to start a install, or load a kernel to bring up a thing client so family can still use the pc's while I am gone.

Ok.. I'll rephrase.. go take a look at some of the floppy based distros or Damn Small Linux to see what they used for their kernels, kernel configs.. etc.

I am not going to waist the time trying to learn how to tear down a kernel. If I can find a pre configured .config file, or a pre built kernel, I will continue to learn what I set out too. Which is Net Booting. This is just the first step, and its not as easy as the paper makes it out to be.

I don't think we're going to "waste" our time either.

What do you mean by that?
