Need some one with tetex knowhow, installing fonts

Hello there.
I have a DVI file and I need to convert it to pdf. I tried dvipdf, but it complains about missing fonts. So I downloaded the fonts. Only, how do I install these fonts ? I tried running "texconfig rehash" but to no avail. I have put the fonts in "/etc/share/tetex/fonts/public/dc/", but dvips doesn't see them.
I have searched the web on the subject, but it's all so unclear. I don't know what to do.
I have created the DVI file with a program called "scientific word" under windows. I did'nt have a choise but to use this program (damn m$). I know I can use acrobat destiller, but thats fu**ing expencive.
Could some one with latex/tetex knowhow help me ?
O yeh, the fonts that i'm trying to install are *.tfm fonts
