Question need info to get started

i just got started with web design about six months ago and i love it. right now i'm using a html editor for all my work. i want to get even deeper in the hole design and creation aspect. i want to write code for pearl and cgi, c++ and the hole nine yards. is linux going to give me the ability to do all of this with out breaking my budget of $75.00? also, my friend hooked me up with red hat 6.0 the other day. will it do the job or am i dreaming?

thanks for the advice

it includes all the tools you will ever need, for free,(with a few exceptions). hooked you up with RH6? unloaded it on you is a better description, it's ancient. they're up to version 8.0 now. you can download almost any distro you want at http://linuxiso.org/ or pay a few bucks and have it mailed to you from www.cheapbytes.com
