httpd.conf

Can someone please help me.
I have Linux Mandrake 7.2 & I am trying to set it up as a web server. Apache was already installed & it was working fine but I couldnt get PHP working on it so I downloaded the latest version of PHP & installed it but still PHP wont work. When I view my PHP file in the browser it shows the source code.
The next thing I done was install the latest version of Apache but still no joy.
Next thing I done was I edited httpd.conf. I uncommented the two lines that said:
################################
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
################################
Still no joy

I have been searching through previous posts looking for a solution & I think I should have a few lines in httpd.conf that say something like:
#################################
<IfDefine HAVE_PHP4>
AddModule.....
</IfDefine>
#################################
I havent got anything like that in my httpd.conf file.

Could this be the reason I cant get PHP to work & if so how do I fix this ????????

Please Help..

Angry

I have no problem installing from source, I dont download RPM's as I never installed them.

I already installed them both from source, the latest versions aswell, I dont know how to uninstall them so I just compiled them from source over the original installation's.

Should that of worked or am I SUPPOSED to uninstall them first ??

Thanks
