I have been using squid+privoxy for a while till yesterday that i have to restart server due to power failure. I then realize that computer within LAN can access internet with my squid and privoxy both shutdown. I think there might be other proxy server running but when i do netstat -antp i didn't see any relevant daemon running proxy.
`dpkg -l |grep proxy`
ii lbxproxy 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 Low Bandwidth X (LBX) proxy server
ii proxymngr 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 X proxy services manager
ii squid 2.5.9-10sarge2 Internet Object Cache (WWW proxy cache)
ii squid-common 2.5.9-10sarge2 Internet Object Cache (WWW proxy cache) - co
ii xfwp 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 X firewall proxy server
Can anyone give me some advice how to locate/turn of this hidden proxy server so everyone has to go through squid?
You're not really telling us much about your network set-up. If the proxy
is a stand-alone machine (other than your router) or the router allows http
connections from other machines than the proxy there's no need for a "hidden
proxy", people can just simply browse, proxy or not.
sorry didn't give enough info in the first place. Its a gateway box where i put all software in that server. So all the LAN pc get to internet via that server.
I guess you are right that ppl don't need proxy to access internet. I was confused with NAT and proxy.Silly me :P I think i just have to use iptables to redirect traffic to squid listening port.
