Need help Root filesystem on NFS with 2.4 kernel (initrd ?)

I have setup several diskless nodes using this totural http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/diskless-howto.xml
They work fine. Now I would like to run openmosix on all three.. and this means running the 2.4 kernel. I tryed enabling the same option as I did in the 2.6 kernel (root file system on NFS support) But this doesn't seem to work like it does with the 2.6 kernel.

I was told I could build an initrd image to support root filesystem on NFS in user-space. I have looked around on various sites and googled diskless openmosix but I can't seem to come up with what I need to enable root file system support in user-space. I asked on #ltsp but they just said to download their lbe and look at their initrd source directory...But I don't know what to do if I havn't done it before and cant find any decent docs. Any help would be great so I can get these diskless nodes booting my openmosix kernel and successfully mounted an nfs exported root filesystem.
