Need consistent terminal windows using Red Hat Ent Linux v4.5

I'm running Red Hat Enterprise Linux V4.5. My question is as follows: When I open a terminal by clicking the terminal icon at the top of the screen, the environment in the resulting terminal window is set to the current user.

However, when I right-mouse in the background and bring up a terminal from the pop-up menu, the environment is different. Is there a way to have this terminal come up configured in the same way as in the icon case?

many thanks!

You are using terminal in gnome right? (meaning you are not using kde...since it uses console...)

In the terminal you can go file or edit (I forget which one) and set the prefrences and save it as the default...

thanks! yes there's a menu at the top of the screen to adjust the terminal that comes up there. In a nutshell, I'm looking for a way to configure things so that when the user right-mouses in the background and chooses new terminal, the current user's .bashrc file gets sourced, with env being reflected in that window.
