Nautilus zip/tar/gz File Associations
Several times now, over the past 2 years or so, I install the latest version of redhat (5.1, 6.2, 7.0 and now 7.2) struggle away for a few weeks, do something that kills my install and give up and go back to windows.
I'm /determined/ not to give up this time ! All is well, with my install at the moment, I'm developing with java just fine and sussed the whole SSH thing out so I could talk to SourceForge. My main problem at the moment (*) is a really niggly one. The /last/ time I used Linux, I was using Gnome and the Gnome File Manager. When I clicked on a zip/tar/gz file, I got the contents graphically. Since I put RH7.2 on (with Nautilus) my archive files have the right icon, but clicking gives me nothing. I've found the file association dialog, but I don't know what to associate the files with. Obviously it's not "unzip" since I'm not looking to unzip the file, just browse it. Did I miss a config step when I installed, or is there some magic way to get my file associations working now ? Thanks in advance, Alan -- XP - Stop Writing Legacy Code http://www.twelve71.com/resume.html (*) My other problem is at the other end of the spectrum and it's getting my NT box to see my linux box, which I understand involves "samba". I ticked the box to install it, but don't know where to go from there.... but that's another post :-) |
