hello,
I'm currently using Freenas (
www.freenas.org) as a NAS server
.
Freenas is based on FreeBSD so as its developing team points out it would be wise to use UFS as file system. Having switched from a windows environement to a linux one (since 5 months) I use ext3 filesystem. What I miss is file encryption though (on my NAS). The Freenas team is currently working on a GELI encryption implementation.
Here comes the part where I need your expert opinion(s):
Should I switch to a linux distro - I was thinking of SME server (
www.smeserver.org) + trying to use LUKS (
http://luks.endorphin.org/) (wich is now already implemented since Kernel 2.6.19) as encryption method;
OR
Should I stick with Freenas considering the fact that they are already working on an encryption method plus the fact that ZFS is almost ready for implementation in FreeBSD (
http://blogs.freebsdish.org/pjd/2007...zfs-progress/).
FreeBSD/Freenas + ZFS + encryption seems to be a solid thing but I would need to format all my hard disks and that means a lot of data transfer (Terabytes)
Thanks in advanced for your input
