Unhappy mysql start error

Hi,
I am now using redhat 8 and have mysql server as one of the packages. The version with redhat 8 is 3.23.52.
When I tried to start it by typing mysql or other methods as root, I always get an error:

ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.soc.

I checked and there was no file named "mysql.soc"

Does anyone know what the problem is? I thought mysql comes with redhat 8 so I just need to start the server.

Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your reply.

Do you know of any command that I can try to start mysql server? I have tried several, one of which may be the correct one. But each time, I got an error message like that.

Running into the same problem

Only I'm running under Gentoo w/ mysql version 3.23.56

According to the logs the daemon tries to start, and then Segfaults and is terminiated without predjudice by the kernel.

I've just re-linked my binutils and glibc, so one of those puppies gave my mysql server heartburn.

Have you run up2date recently?
