MySQL,PHP and Apache

At my Work I've noticed a real need for some webpages that will populate a database and send out some email when somebody hits a submit button.

I've looked around and seem to think the best answer would be with Mysql and PHP with apache.

Since I'd like to learn how to create these webpages and just do it on my computer until I can actually get proficient at it I'm running Suse Linux 9.2.

It has MySQL on it, along with Apache and PHP.

I've picked up some books at the local libary "Sams Teach yourself Apache,PHP and MySQL in 24 hours" Yeah right.

what happens is I read these books and they miss out on one thing. How to configure the damn thing since it's already installed on my machine.

and the next thing. "Now start MySQL" And I'll be darned if there's a comment about HOW to start it. Heavy sigh.

My question to you all is.

1. any suggestions about reading material for a true MySQL,PHP,Apache Virgin?
2. Training suggestions.
3. Websites suggestions that I may of missed in my searches. I could always use more links.

A greatful thank you to all who can help
Doug

this is a totural that I used originaly
http://www.hostlibrary.com/installin...l_php_on_linux

its really all basic and can be applyed to most any distro
btw you may have a bit of truble installed mysql with the flags they use in the compile....Mysql was the only rpm install I used. but now I just use gentoo with emerge and just edit the configs after

EDIT: OOPS I missed the part where you said it was already installed, nvm
