My player cant play rmvb file while avi file is ok......what's going on??!!!

I m currently using bitlord. recently i had just downloaded a 285mb file. th file name is as below:
[YYCAF][Gung][022][KO_CN].rmvb

and i m using windows media player to play it.
it's fine when i open a downloaded avi file , but when i try to play the video file as above, it cant be played and a sign that shows "video cannot play backwards.format not supported" appeared.

can any1 tell me what to do with this? is it the codec problem ...or what...by the way, the codecs that i use is ffdshow, xvid. whenever i play my avi file the ffdshow symbol will appear.even with subtittles its ok.

i had also notice that avi files are usually bigger than rmvb files.
can any1 tell me what's the difference?
and y do ppl do encoding?

ooh...this is my 1st post here....and i think its abit too long.....very sorry!!!!i just have too many questions too ask....if i cant find my answers here, can also anyone suggest where should i go to ?

Are you running WMP through wine? That seems a bit inefficient for video playback. Have you tried xine or mplayer?

I've not come across Bitlord, but a quick Google seems to suggest that it's for Windows only. As you mention Windows Media Player and you've never heard of wine, I have to ask - are you actually using Linux? Not that I mind either way, but the answers you get will depend on what you're running.

use mplayer it plays it. saw chronicles of narnia recently in rmvb format using mplayer.

i had never seen or heard of a rmvb format. is this a new format similar to divx.

to proceed a file with rmvb format, u need to have the real alternative system in prder to open th file.....wmp will not do the job course it only suppl for avi and other formts besides rm, rma, rmvb and others format.
