Multiple Live distors, Dos + Linux on single CD
Hi!
I have been tasked to test a lot of harddrives using the manufactures diagnostics tool. This tool/program is run in a LiveCD environment using different versions of Dos. Now, these tools only use about 2-5 mb of space on the disk, it feels quite the waste. That is why I want to have the following on a single CD/DVD: 1. Diagnostics tool for Seagate/Maxtor drives 2. Diagnostics tool for Western Digital driver 3. Diagnostics tool for Samsung Spinpoint drives 4. Diagnostics tool for Hitachi/IBM Deskstar drives 5. Memtest86+ 6. Damn Small Linux (or perhaps Slax...) 7. Recovery Is Possible Is there a (easy or not) way to do this? Oh I almost forgot, I am running Crunch Bang Linux (a very lightweight Ubuntu (Jaunty) based distro) on my laptop right now. Thank you in advance! |
Perhaps you could check out SystemRescueCD, it bundles both Linux/FreeDOS so you can choose either one at startup. And it has other tools, like memtest.

Um
well, I believe the newer UBCD Ultimate Boot CD has alot of hardware testing tools http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/forums...pic.php?t=2131 its very cool; but you wanna add more like I did with ThorsHammer http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Syste...er-52308.shtml its outdated though and heres all my distros the newest Ultrimate Debian Live has alot of everything http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Syste...86-54010.shtml http://linux.softpedia.com/progMoreB...isX-31789.html go with 503box-Chrome and add UBCD and more Now, I could show you how to make one or more cd/dvd/usb with syslinux, isolinux, grub and or grub2 So, we could colaborate and make a awesome new multidistro rescue cd/dvd/usb if you want? |
Thank you for your rapid reply, I have found a live CD that does somewhat what I want, but the tools is not up to date, but check it out Hiren Rescue CD, I will also check out your recommendations.
Now then, I have downloaded syslinux bootloader to put on the CD, is it possible to burn the iso files to the disc like this, samsung.iso/Westerndigital.iso/ibm.iso and boot off them from syslinux? A collaboration would be quite awesome, since I am still quite new to configuring bootloaders and make them work. Oh, I just thought of something, since all diagnostics tools (that I have tried) use dos, perhaps the way to go is with FreeDOS and launch the diagnostics from there. There might be one problem though (or maybe not, I am not all that in to the different versions of DOS), one of the diagnostics tools use Caldera DOS (spelling?). |
