Multiple distros at once
I have RedHat 9.0, and want to install either Debian or Slackware. However, I had some questions for the community first, since I have not attempted installing another distro before. BTW, if it matters, I also have Windows ME installed.
First - Would resources and such (users, DE configuration, /swap and /root partitions, etc) be shared between the two distros? Second - Is there anything I would need to do differently in installing the second Linux distro? Finally, between Debian and Slackware, which one would anyone suggest installing? Thanks, Diomedes |
I like Kanotix. You can try it out first then do a debian install at konsole from from live cd with the command sudo knoppix-installer-latest-web. It uses the grub bootloader which I don't like because I have trouble configuring. I installed mandrake after and used the lilo from that distro to boot. I now can successfully boot xp, kanotix and mandrake. I am working on Fedora Core 3 to get it to boot but am having alittle trouble there. I had Red Hat 9 in the FC3 partition but wanted a change. It is very easy to configure lilo. If you can't get the entry just post it and someone probably has it. That's how I got my system to go. The windows os will always be a choice on whatever bootloader you choose to put on. At least it was on the installs that I have performed. Hope this helps.
