Multimedia Keyboard and Multiple Button Mice
 

This isn't a post about how to do something I have already been down that road. I am mostly curious as to whether or not there are any projects in the works that will port the windows drivers for these devices to Linux? Or is this an issue where the companies themselves are going to have to step in and write the drivers specifically for Linux.

I'm not sure what you mean, all of those devices that I have ever used were supported out of the box in Linux.

I second that. For what it's worth, I'm using both those devices as I type.

To be fair, I am sure that there is some wild multimedia/gaming keyboard out there with a bunch of crazy keys and buttons on it that might not work 100%. In that case, it would be up to the manufacturer to release the information required to create a driver (or release their own driver) or somebody would have to reverse engineer it.

But in most cases, devices should be adhering to the standard USB HID protocol.

Sorry I meant with assigning the multimedia keys. Is there anything that is in the works that is going to make it so that said keyboards multimedia keys are going to do what they are supposed to do right out of the box. Or is this just one of those things that is such a low priority that it doesn't even register on the radar as of right now? Sorry I guess I wasn't as clear as I thought I was, I have to remember that you guys aren't in my head.
