Are the proper codecs installed? Check in /usr/lib/win32 or /usr/local/lib/win32.If they aren't download them from Mplayer's site and extract them into /usr/lib/win32.Typing mplayer by itself in a terminal or man mplayer should give you some options to use.

To get to a directory the command is 'cd'

so cd /usr/lib/win32

Good luck

recompile!

suse has a badly-compiled default mplayer in their distro. best recompile it from scratch, get all the codex and libraries you need before and compile them, put them into the right places.
when i tested, they had disabled ac3 sound and some other things were just not done right.
suse's mplayer is just a default, not the best one can get.
