mplayer firefox plugin

Thought I could get a quick answer here.

Why is the mplayer browser plugin called "Google VLC multimedia plugin 1.0" in aboutlugins? What is the correlation to google? More specifically this plugin is the following set of files: mplayerplug-in-dvx.so mplayerplug-in-gmp.so mplayerplug-in-qt.so mplayerplug-in-rm.so mplayerplug-in-wmp.so mplayerplug-in.so

Please explain. Thanks.

hmm... I ditched the mplayer plugin & went with the VLC plugin. My about plugins says:
Code:
VLC multimedia plugin

    File name: libvlcplugin.so
    VLC multimedia plugin

    version 0.8.5 Janus
    VideoLAN WWW: http://www.videolan.org/
does your looks anything like that? maybe you're using the VLC plugin & don't know it?

No, it looks like this:

Google VLC multimedia plugin 1.0

File name: mplayerplug-in-gmp.so
mplayerplug-in 3.17

Video Player Plug-in for QuickTime, RealPlayer and Windows Media Player streams using MPlayer
JavaScript Enabled and Using GTK2 Widgets

MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-google-vlc-plugin Google Video Yes

And I'm not mixing it up with another plugin; mplayer and flash are the only plugins I use, and I think I can tell the difference in aboutlugins...

You are using a dated version of mplayerplig-in. The latest is 3.25 and it doesn't include that plug anymore since google video now uses flash.

Still odd that they would name the wholy plugin by that title. Yes, I'll upgrade, and while where on the subject of the mplayer plugin: have you gotten it working with opera?
