Mplayer Doesn't Like New Monitor

Hello all. I just bought a new 19 inch monitor for my new pc which will arriving shortly. To see what the monitor looks like I plugged it into my laptop. It looks awesome! The only problem is mplayer movies come up as a blue screen. No video at all. Sound works fine though. I'm guessing that mplayer is still trying to send the video to my laptop monitor.

How do I get mplayer to play the video on the new monitor? I use the gui and I checked the settings but nothing jumped out at me. Any ideas?
