mpg, avi files don't work on Macintosh.

Hi Penguins.

I am totally lost.
I am making movie file for my presentation.

Following I did.

Use povray to make many frames (png files), then gimp (png->ppm) to make mpeg2 file (mpeg2encoder is hiding behind).

The product files play well with mplayer on Penguin, but not with Apple (9.2 and 10.3) I changed to avi format using mencoder, but Apple does not like them either. Darwin can recognize them as MPEG file. Also, graphicconverter fails to open them.

Where is the problem? Penguin side or Apple side? Apple does not give me clear error message, just say "cannot open this file", or "not recognizable format"...

Any help will be appreciated.

Have a nice day!

added edit.
Evil Bil's OS can play mpeg, but avi fails, saying "ClassFactory cannot supply requested class.

I've come accross so many clips that wont play in quicktime on osx that I don't even use it anymore. I think you can update it but I just use vlc for osx. you can get mplayer too.
