if you do not want anti-aliasing, you should get
a mozilla which was not compiled with xft support,
or do not compile it with xft support yourself.
you can get a non aliased version here.

ja ok, I've done that and true to your word it works but does this mean that ALL the programs that come with slack 9 and use the gnome librarys are going to be anti-alias ? :O because I've started to notice a few are like gaim and pan

most gtk2 apps are anti aliased. if you want to turn it off,
try going to font settings and set smoothing to none.
but it will make the fonts very ugly in my opinion.
