Mozilla 9.7

I downloaded the tar.gz Mozilla 9.7 file for my Mandrake 8.1 system. After I unpacked and untared the file I tried to install the program but it would not intstall, but it will run from the folder I unpacked it to. All I have to do is click on the mozilla icon in the folder and it works great. I even put plugins in the plugin folder and they to work. The only problem seems to be that 9.7 is not my default Mozilla browser. Anyone know why I did not have to install the program?

Heck, I'm still wondering how Moz got to 9.7 so quick

I'm not sure if there is such a thing as a default browser in the linux world. I can switch from Netscape to Konq -- or run them at the same time.

Sounds to me like it's working just fine...

What I should have said the first time is that the reason I downloaded 9.7 is that I wanted to upgrade to Galeon 1.0, but to run Galeon 1.0 I needed a higher version of Mozilla. So when I didn't have to install Mozilla I thought maybe Galeon 1. 0 would not see the newer version of Mozilla. Plus I thougth is strange that the app run with out installing it.

Basically unpacking it is enough, but it normally goes in /usr/local/mozilla so that everyone can run it and they will have their saved settings in /home/username/.mozilla

you only need to have 0.9.6. for gal1, you can get tham both on rpm, from rpmfind.net. you want this one...

ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake-dev...-4mdk.i586.rpm

just upgrade the old versino, it'll be effortless if you do it properly.

i would say that there's is very very little difference between your version and 1. mainly minor bug fixes adn stability, not that that has ever been an issue, using galeon 0.12.

incidentally... it's mozilla 0.9.7 not 9.7. mozilla has not gone stable yet, even though galeon offically is.
