Is there anybody there who can tell me how to install this. Well it is a rpm, but when trying to install, it only installs some files in the " / " , and nothing else, the only file I can see which could be used is the mozilla.sh but with no instructions and I can not figure out how to proceed from there..
Are you trying to install this on your mandrake 8.1 machine? If so, if you still have your install CD's then Mozilla comes on there. Go into /mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS In there you will find it. I prefer kpackage, but use whichever RPM manager you are comfortable with. If I am wayyyyy off then sorry.
Hi masterC that I know but it is Mozilla 9.4 and I want the RC2, but as it happened I now figured out how to install it complete with JAVA and SpellChecker, and it work 100% - Thanks anyhow..
Hi Dorward, many thanks for yout help, but I did figure it out, and now it works 100% I'm realy happy with Mozilla now the RC2 20020513 build is much better, and with the spell checker working it is great... I also prefer to compile my self..Thanks anyhow.
if just KDE would work a bit faster then Linux would be the fastest in the world.
dorward, how much better is deb? i am curious after so many people have said it is really good.
Also, as to getting deb, can i? how? is it available for free download and is it open source? also, does it come with any distro other than debian? or is it only them that provide it?
Deb isn't really the great part, that comes with apt-get and the debian repository which automatically resolves dependacies for you. You can use it with distros other then Debian, but there isn't a lot of point in doing so - especially if your system is already using RPM.
Hi Dorward, that link I have already look at, and found to confusing for me, perhaps I'm not that smart after all, but I don't understand a word,
How to install KDE 3.0 packages for Mandrake Linux 8.0/8.1/8.2/Cooker?
KDE 3.0 was released on April 2nd 2002. MandrakeSoft has made KDE 3.0 packages available on the KDE FTP server (ftp.kde.org and mirrors) for Mandrake-Linux versions 8.0, 8.1 and 8.2.
Those packages are meant to be installed in parallel with KDE 2.2.2, which makes it possible to use KDE 2.2.2 applications that haven't been ported to KDE 3.0 yet. For this reason, the KDE 3 packages install themselves into /opt/kde3
To install those packages please follow the steps below:
4. Once downloaded, the packages can be installed very easily:
cd directory_where_the_packages_are
urpmi *
Just look point ( 3 ) and then follow the link, you will see 20 or more files MySql and other files does that mean you will have to download all those as well, it does not state as well it says " Users of Mandrake Linux 8.0 or 8.1 will need non-KDE-specific packages, which are available from one of the following directories: " and why do they not just simple do one compressed file with all in ? once downloaded it can be installed very easy, I'm sure after you have figured out which one to download.
and when in point ( 1 ) try to follow this link that takes you to either ( non-kde ) or RPMS now as they did not state if it was as well or only ( non-kde ) and if you need to download all in point ( 1 ) there is some 50 files plus the other ( non-kde ) 20 some 70 files in total, it would take a day, one by one. That is why I wanted to ask some one who already have tried this - I still say totally hole in the head so many files when they could be compresed to tar or zip and then just download one.
Well I just checked those ftp sites, and they don't have that many files on them.
Here are a couple things that might be usefull:
1) In step 1, not all the KDE rpms are needed. Some of them are just the extra software, like kdevelop2.1, kdemulitmedia programs, and so on.
I think for a basic install of KDE3,you will need:
kdebase, kdelibs, arts, qt3
2) Those non-KDE programs are needed to satisfy some dependencies taht kde3, and I think its software need. So first make sure that you don't have them, before downloading and installing them. ex. MySQL, maybe it is already installed on your computer, so you don't need to install it again, unless you got an older version then the one theytell you to download.
3) The reason they didn't make the KDE3 one big file, is because some people just don't want everything that came with kde3. Ex. I didn't download the kdegames, or the kdetoys.
hello again, awtoc, yes i am a real Scotsman! (from Orkney, a group of islands just off the North coast of Scotland) It's not too surprising, there are tons of real Scots here!
Are you a real Chinaman? I read in one of your posts i think that you moved to China from somewhere else.
Mandrake 8.2 only has KDE 2.4 i'm afraid, although it also has GNOME, XFce, Windowmaker, Enlightenment and so on. It's good enough for me. i think the main difference between mandrake 8.* is driver upgrades and other patches, one thing i noticed right off the bat is that my SiS630 video card was supported by default with Mandrake 8.2 (it was not with Red Hat 7.0 or Mandrake 8.0) i hear that those cards are supported with Red Hat 7.2 and above also.
My HAMR V90 SiS630 modem is still unsupported though although i'll get round to sorting it out.
Sorry, off topic! just ignore me! i was only saying hello to awtoc. awtoc, seeya on the www.ms-eradication.org forums!
Hi Calum,
No I'm not a Chinese, I'm from Denmark, but lived in Southampton England for more than 14 Years, and now in China for almost four years.
I have a dedicated Internet line, but also three internal fax modems which is Winmodem V92 HAM, and every body told me that winmodem can not be used in Linux, so I had to make some scripts, and now they all work, I will look up the details on your modem and see if I can come up with something. That is what I love with Linux, everything is possible, just think in Windoze if you don't have a driver then WHAT ?
The only problem I'm having is with one of our scanners Plustek, SANE can find it ok and gives the Vendor ID and Product Code, and everything you need , but the sacnner program can not find it, so I will have to write more scripts when I get time..
Have a nice day in the far north, well Denmark is about the same level as the northern Islands of Scotland.
