Move process between machines

Had a look for this, but as I don't really know how to phrase the question I might have missed it. This is what I want to do:

I run an XP laptop (company provided) that I SSH into my Fedora box on (using Putty) to run various programs including irssi (irc client).

I want to be able to kick off some process on IRC (ie. XDCC download) then close down the laptop, logon to my Fedora box and gain access to the irssi screen that I left on the laptop. Nohup doesn't cut the mustard AFAICT.

Can this be done?

You could do it with vnc.

If you leave the desktop and come back it stays is same as it was as long as you don't shut down the vncserver or exit the X session.
