Move hard disk with OS

Just curious, if I have two similiar machines and I install linux on one (one drive), can the drive be moved to the other PC?

I know you can do this in windows. The memory and disk would auto-detect and you might need to install hardware specific drivers for video, etc. but it works.

-thanks

It will usually do. You should just make sure if there are kernel modules available for hardware on both machines (kernel coming with a distro will be good). Maybe you'll need to reconfigure X (if there are different graphic cards, monitors etc). But you may install software like kudzu, which detects new hardware at boot.
