Mouse not workin sometimes ?

Hi,

I have a Samsung 'cyber beetle' optical mouse. It works perfectly under windows. But in linux, when i move the mouse, the cursor keeps moving horizontally and crazily at the top of the screen and sometimes show the popup box even thoughh i click nothing. The strange thing is, it works under linux 'some' of the times. Any ideas?

If the mouse dosen't have a scroll-wheel, the problem could
be that X is configured to handle the mouse as a wheel-mouse.
This can be checked in the XF86Config in /etc/X11 or in a config-tool
that came with your dist.

Are you using the IMPS/2 protocol?

some mice are intellimouse compatable and you can set the protocol in your XF86Config file to IMPS/2...

# Core Pointer's InputDevice section
# **********************************************************************

Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "ZaxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Butons" "5"

Your system may use XF86Config-4

check the log file to be sure..
you should find it in /var/log/

(==) Log file: "/var/log/XFree86.0.log", Time: Fri Feb 22 08:17:12 2002
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config"

check this too...

ls -l /dev/mouse
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Feb 9 02:58 /dev/mouse -> /dev/psaux

make sure the right device is linked

Note that the link name is the same as the device name in the config file.

it may work with a lot of different protocols, but would probably be better with the right one.

edit your config file XF86Config or XF86Config-4 and change

Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"

to

Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
