Mounting USB drives under 2.6.x

Has anyone successfully mounted a USB storage device under a 2.6.x kernel?

Whoops! I hit return while the cursor was outside the text entry window, and it was off to the races.

Anyway, the question is still valid. I have not been able to mount my usb pendrive under linux using kernel 2.6.3. I have tried 'mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/flash' as well as a number of other possible device combinations. I have also dug through the archives here, and although there are a number of other people having this problem, I didn't find the answer in those threads.

Could be I overlooked it, but if that is the case, I will gladly get flamed for it, if it means I can mount this thing again.

Don't want to hear from folks who have no problem mounting these drives under 2.4.x. Just 2.6.x.
