mounting samba shares easily

I am trying to mount a couple samba shares at start up and am having some problems. I tried putting the commands in fstab but my system is running fstab before it starts up smb (I think) and it hangs during startup while mounting the smb shares. So I tried writing a script I could run and maybe eventually put in my profile, but the problem is my password for the samba share contains a ( so the script encounters an error at my password. anybody know how I can find a solution?

Do those shares mount okay when the system is up and running? Maybe you can put "quotes" around the password. Also, maybe you can mount them in /etc/rc.d/rc.local (it runs after all other init scripts).

If it was me I would change the password. I tried a password with a ( in it and it gave me an invalid syntax error. It looks like the ( character is not valid.

The shares mount fine once I am up and running. How do I go about putting in the rc.local?

I really dont want to change the password, I thought of another work around by adding another account with access to the drives (they are ntfs) but I know I should be able to get these to mount. I did somethin a few years back by having the smbd service startup earlier in the boot process but can't remember how.

Do it as you did after the system was "up an running". Did you do something like "mount -t smbfs ..."?

I think the "auto" drives from fstab get mounted in /etc/rc.sysinit. You could start the service in there, or maybe add something to /etc/inittab
