Talking mounting floppy disk

i wanted to allow other people to use there floppy's on my laptop. (windows floppies).

i added there usernames to the sudoers file and wrote them a quick sh script

indisk.sh

#!/bin/sh
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /floppy

this works great... however noone has permission to write to the disk.
and as root i cant change the permissions either.. is there a way to do this (without coping the file to their homedir and moving it back as root when their done).

why can't you change the permissions? Did you do a chmod +rwx to it?

An easy way to mount a floppy is to just click on the floppy icon, and it should mount.

Linux has no trouble just reading and writing a windoze floppy. It reads and writes FAT32 (windoze) with no problem.

i think it is because it is mounted as vfat. because my windows partition i can mount as well, but i cant change the permissions.

i tried chmod a+w. it dosn't give any errors. but dosn't change the permissions either.

... i dont have a floppy icon lol

OK, it took a little reading, but try this (as root, obviously):
Code:
cd /

ls -l /|less <--find /floppy and note it's permissions.

chmod 777 /floppy

ls -l /|less <--again, note the permissions
Do the permissions change to now allow everyone full access to /floppy? If so, modify your script command to read:
Code:
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /floppy -o rw,user,exec
This worked on my box (Mandrake 8); man mount for a description of the options I gave.

Hope it helps.
