if it's a floppy with no filesystem then format it first

fdformat /dev/fd0

or you may not have a format on the floppy that your kernel can read

to tell it a file type use "-t"

mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

Yeah - I have to tell it '-t vfat' if I want to preserve the long filenames. You can make an alias like 'mdf' for mounting dos floppies if you want.

if it doesn't have a fs, formating won't put one on it, try this

mk2fs /dev/fd0
