Mount Problems

I have just installed Slackware 8 and have set most things up OK. Last problem I am having is with 2 mount points:

/mnt/floppy is my floppy and /mnt/cdrom is my cdrom. I can mount, unmount, read (and write for the floppy) these as both root and a user.

I am trying to use /mnt/filestore/linux as the mount point for a Windows NT share on my network with Samaba. I have read/write/execute access for the mount point for all users. I can mount the share OK as root and can read the files without a problem. However, when I try to mount it as a user I get the following error:

cannot mount on /mnt/filestore/linux: Operation not permitted smbmnt failed: 1
When I move the mount point to a directory within the users home directory, it works OK.

I assume that this is a permissions problem, but I don't know where. Do I have to tell Samba what mount points should be user mountable or something?

My fstab entry is as follows:
//FILESTORE/linux /mnt/filestore/linux smbfs user,rw,noauto,username=alany 0 0

Anybody seen this problem before?

Thanks.

i don't think that reply quite helps...

have you checked your permissions for the /mnt directory or any of the others following it that your mounting to ?? if it works in their home directory, and not the other, it does sound like a permission problem.
