mount:not a directory. Suse dvd mount problem
Hallo! I am a new linux user (I use Suse Linux 9 Pro) and I do enjoy it! However I face up some problems... A friend of mine gave me a dvd-r with some mp3s and when I tried to mount it ("mount /media/dvd") I took an error report "mount: not a directory). What can I do for this? I ve searched many web sites but I still have this problem! Could anybody help me? Thanks a lot!!
PS When I tried to mount a data dvd bought with a magazine everything worked fine! |
Check and find out what the actual directory is instead of trying to mount /media/dvd?
Its probably named something else? |
Hi!what exactly do you mean? I ve made a test dir to mount dev/dvd (or dvd/hdb) but I got the same error msg! I ve also tried "mount -t iso9660 /dev/dvd /media/dvd" and I got "mount: block device /dev/dvd is write-protected, mounting read only, mount: not a directory"....!

If it was burned or created as a media dvd, you probably won't be able to mount it. Have you tried loading the mp3s on it thru a mp3 player of some kind? Cause in most cases you can't mount media cd/dvd's and only data cd's, etc.

SuSe 9 DVD mount problems
I am having problems mounting any DVD. My fstab is set to auto and I have manually tried all other file systems. I need help please.
|
mount -t iso9660 /dev/dvd /media/dvd
considering above* - do u have directory /media/dvd :and have permissions for it? TEST - mkdir /dvd - mount /dev/dvd /dvd 'or' mount -t iso9660 /dev/dvd /dvd |
Re: SuSe 9 DVD mount problems

Here's what I have in my SuSE9 /etc/fstab: Code:
/dev/dvd /media/dvd auto unhide,ro,noauto, user, exec 0 0 Edit: I just assumed you meant "auto" mount rather than "auto" file system...if that's not the case, disregard what I said. Something to keep in mind: DVDs work pretty much the same as CDs. If the DVD is a movie or audio disk you don't need to mount it...just start up your player and go. |
same here
hi everyone
i get: mount -t iso9660 w98.iso /mnt2 -o loop mount: Not a directory thanks in advance. digi |
Same problem, looks like. Does /mnt2 exist and have proper permissions? Also, are you in the directory with w98.iso when you issue the command?
