More CLI!
I noticed that lately im converting to using more and more CLI tools, such as Vim, Pine, fetchmail, even lynx as well. CLI tools might be considered arcane by some but i notice that work can be domne much faster and more efficiently using some CLI programs. And i don't even know many of them. When i learn about awk and SED i'm sure CLI would become by far more efficient than having a GUI, too bad i can't see pics using lynx tho...
Any commenst on this, or any good CLI programs for everyday use to suggest?
And one more thing, i called the techie support about my ADSL conection that im hoping to get by xmas, and the guy said he has no idea what is Linux and will it workj on Linux. Well as far as i know they use simple PPP or PPPoE to connect, so im asking is it possible that my ADSL line would be useless in Linux?
What a dork! He doesn't even know what it is? I mean, I am pretty sure everyone I know has at least "heard" of it, maybe they have no idea what it is, but they could tell you it's something to do with a computer, I'd think anyway..
For music you've got the ncurses based program, mp3blaster. Works great btw.
I got a question for you though, if ya know..
How would I turn a regular jpg or png pic into ascii art? Is there a program that does that, maybe imagemagik or gimp?
As for your DSL, I doubt you'll have a "useless" setup with it, at worst it might be a little rough configuring til you get it down, but I don't think it'd be completely worthless.
You might consider either editing that part out of your message though, and asking that part in the networking section, or asking a mod to do that for you, if it's possible.
I am pretty sure xDSL line will work with rp-pppoe from roaring
Chad as for ascii art viewer take a look at aview. The site has a good docs on aalib as well, but first you need to convert your images to .p?m format (pnm, prm, etc) ImageMagik can do it. Have fun.
